Other Health Coverage
Other Health Coverage (OHC) refers to private health insurance. Services may include medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, and/or Medicare supplemental plans (Part C & D).
The following is not OHC:
- Medical Managed Care Plans (i.e. LA Care, Molina, etc.)
- Medicare Part A & B
- Institutionalized (OHC Code “I”)
- Medi-Cal
OHC Processing Center
The OHC Processing Center
provides a method for members or authorized representatives to modify OHC for Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
Reporting Other Health Coverage
Federal and state laws require Medi-Cal beneficiaries to report OHC to ensure Medi-Cal is the payer of last resort.
When Medi-Cal learns that a beneficiary has OHC, the Medi-Cal record is than updated to reflect the OHC.
Before submitting your request to modify OHC, please have the Medi-Cal beneficiary’s
Client Index Number (CIN) available and OHC information. The CIN is the first nine characters of the identification number located on the front of the beneficiary’s
Benefits Identification Card (BIC).
